Age Specific Fertility Rate: The number of live births to women in a certain age group, per 1,000 women in that age group. e.g., Live births to adolescent mothers per 1,000 adolescent girls of the same age in the Utah population.

As of November 22, 2017, the IBIS system has been updated to use a new algorithm which uses both ZIP and county information to designate Local Health District (LHD) and Utah Small Area. Prior to 2015 San Juan County was part of the Southeast Local Health District. In 2015 the San Juan County Local Health District was formed. Data reported are for all years using the current boundaries.
  • Utah Birth Certificate Database, Office of Vital Records and Statistics, Utah Department of Health and Human Services. The population estimates were produced by staff in the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Division of Data, Systems, and Evaluation. Linear interpolation of U.S. Census Bureau, Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute population estimates and ESRI ZIP Code data provided annual population estimates for ZIP Code areas by sex and age groups, IBIS Version 2022.
Birth certificates are filed electronically by hospital birth certificate clerks. The information comes from a variety of sources including a worksheet the mother fills out, the mother's prenatal record, and the delivery record. The Office of Vital Records and Statistics has a Quality Control program where every hospital is audited annually. Births are randomly selected and hospital records are checked to verify the accuracy of the reported information.
