Health Care System Factors
Because people with chronic health conditions may also be at greater risk for depression, it is important that primary care providers assess their patients with chronic physical conditions for depression. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was developed to be used by primary care providers for screening, diagnosing, and measuring the severity of depression. The PHQ-9 was adapted for telephone health surveys and is asked on the Utah Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance in some years.^1^[[br]]
