Utah Birth Certificate Database, Office of Vital Records and Statistics,
Utah Department of Health and Human Services.
The population estimates were produced by staff in the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Division of Data, Systems, and Evaluation. Linear interpolation of U.S. Census Bureau, Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute population estimates and ESRI ZIP
Code data provided annual population estimates for ZIP Code areas by sex and age groups,
IBIS Version 2022.

GeneralFertRate
The general fertility rate is the number of live births per 1,000 females of childbearing age between the ages of 15-44 years. (The age range can be slightly different, so it is important to note what age range is being used especially if comparison with other rates are contemplated).
Sarea
As of November 22, 2017, the IBIS system has been updated to use a new algorithm which uses both ZIP and county information to designate Local Health District (LHD) and Utah Small Area. Queries by LHD or Small Area may yield different numbers than in prior months. For more information go to [http://ibis.health.utah.gov/pdf/resource/Algorithm.pdf]
MannKendall
The Mann-Kendall test is used to determine if a trend is present in the data. This test does not account for the magnitude
of the difference between annual rates, it only determines if the difference is higher or lower. The null hypothesis is
that there is no trend present. We employ a two-tailed test with an 80 percent confidence interval. If the p-value is
10 percent or less then the test will reject the null hypothesis and state whether the trend is increasing or decreasing.
GeoLHD_2015
Prior to 2015 San Juan County was part of the Southeast Local Health District. In 2015 the San Juan County Local Health District was formed. Data reported are for all years using the current boundaries.
BirthData
Birth certificates are filed electronically by hospital birth certificate clerks. The
information comes from a variety of sources including a worksheet the mother fills out, the
mother's prenatal record, and the delivery record. The Office of Vital Records and Statistics
has a Quality Control program where every hospital is audited annually. Births are randomly
selected and hospital records are checked to verify the accuracy of the reported information.
Overview
The birth data in this IBIS-Q query module come from the Utah Birth
Certificate database. The database is maintained by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Vital Records and Statistics. The population data
used for the denominator were produced by ESRI ZIP
Code data provided annual population estimates for ZIP Code areas by sex and age groups, are considered the most accurate available.
"Utah Small Areas" refers to a set of geographic areas in Utah with
population sizes ranging from approximately 16,000 to 80,000 persons.
These geographic areas are especially useful for doing public health
assessment in communities within Utah's urban counties. Utah Small Area
population numbers are not available for race, ethnicity, or single
year of age.
