Query Builder for Birth Query Module for Utah Counties and Local Health Districts - Percentage With Prenatal Care in the First Trimester

Overview

Overview

The birth data in this IBIS-Q query module come from the Utah Birth Certificate database. The database is maintained by the Utah Department of Health, Office of Vital Records and Statistics. The population data used for the denominator were produced by the Utah Governor's Office of Planning and Budget, and are considered the most accurate available.

Follow the steps to narrow your query and display your results. When you are done forming your query, click "Submit" bottom of the screen (last step) to get your query result.
Step 1: Select year (Year, 2007) Step 2: Select mother's age group (Mother's age group)

First choose a coding scheme to use for age groups. Default is age adjustment age groups, all ages.

Maternal age groups (Under 15, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50+)

Use a hyphen to indicate a range of ages (e.g., "5-8" will includes ages 5, 6, 7, and 8).

You may use greater than (>) and less than(<) symbols. An entry of (<1) yields all infants age 0 through 364 days.

You may use a plus sign (+) to indicate all ages equal to or greater than (e.g.,"85+" yields all those aged 85 and over).

Adequate Weight Gain

This measure is based on the Institute of Medicine's 1990 recommendations for weight gain during pregnancy. The measure is based upon maternal prepregnancy body mass index and amount of weight gained during pregnancy. The IOM recommendations are as follows:

Prepregnancy BMI: _____ Recommended weight gain:

Less than 19.8 _________ 28 - 40 pounds

19.8 to 26.1 ___________ 25 - 35 pounds

26.1 to 29.1 ___________ 15 - 25 pounds

29.1 or greater _________ 0 - 15 pounds

Weight gain below the recommended amount is considered inadequate. Weight gain above the recommended amount is considered excessive.

Weight gain within the recommended weight gain range has been associated with positive birth outcomes.

Gestational Age

Gestational Age is the period of time a baby is carried in the uterus or the duration of the pregnancy, measured from the first day of the last menstrual period. Full-term gestation is between 37 and 42 weeks.
Age of gestation

Size for Gestational Age

Small for gestational age (SGA) is a term used to describe a baby who is smaller than the usual amount for the number of weeks of pregnancy. SGA babies usually have birthweights below the 10th percentile for babies of the same gestational age. This means that they are smaller than 90 percent of all other babies of the same gestational age.

Large for gestational age (LGA) is a term used to describe a baby who is larger than the usual amount for the number of weeks of pregnancy. LGA babies usually have birthweights above the 90th percentile for babies of the same gestational age. This means that they weigh more than 90 percent of all other babies of the same gestational age.
