Hispanic persons may be of any race. Persons in race categories are only those who selected a single race. 2000 decennial census data refer to the previous calendar year (1999). In 1999, the U.S. Census Bureau poverty threshold was $16,700 for a family of four.
Currently, poverty information for race by sex is not available beyond the 2000 decennial census. The American Community Survey (ACS) is poised to produce its first ever data products for all areas in the United States. In the future, data for this indicator will be based on these new 5-year estimates. 5-year estimates are scheduled to be released in December of 2010. These 5-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2009. Data will be available for every state, county, city, town, and place, as well as for census tracts and block groups.
