Indicator Profile of Motor Vehicle Crash Injury Hospitalizations

Why Is This Important?

Motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) are the second leading cause of injury hospitalization in Utah, trailing only falls. In an average year, more than 2,100 people are hospitalized due to MVCs, resulting in more than 11,500 hospital days and total charges of nearly $37 million.

The number of inpatient hospital visits for Motor Vehicle Crash Injuries per 100,000 persons in the population. This includes hospitalized persons who died as a result of their injuries. ICD-9 codes E810-E825. Includes E-codes in the E-code field.

How We Calculated the Rates

Numerator: The number of inpatient hospital visits for Motor Vehicle Crash Injuries.
Denominator: The number of persons in the population of reference.
