Complete Health Indicator Report of Child Care Numbers of Facilities

Child care numbers of facilities.

The number of licensed child care facilities in the state, as reported by the Utah Department of Health, Child Care Licensing Program.

Why Is This Important?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2015 American Community Survey, in families with children under 18, 62 percent reported either both parents were in the labor force or a single-parent householder participated in the labor force. Roughly 60 percent of Utah mothers with children under the age of six participated in the labor force; 49 percent of Utah mothers with children both under the age of six and between the ages of six through 17 participated in the labor force; and 72 percent of Utah mothers with children only aged six and older participated in the labor force. This means that Utah families have a significant need for safe, healthy child care services.

How Are We Doing?

Utah has 348 licensed child care centers, and 876 in-home licensed child care providers. The total number of child slots in centers is 30,673. The total number of child slots in in-home care is 10,683. (Dec. 2017 data)
